Canadian starting to invest in USA

- Do you purchase property under your personal name or under a company?

- what type of company do I open/how to structure this company?

You need to work with someone who specializes in this--setting up international investors to buy in the US--because the structuring is critical. It's not hard, but it needs to be done right or you could end up with all sorts of logistical problems. Step #1 is--you have to get a US entity. Step #2 is--then you need a US bank account. Then you're good to go!
