Best Cities for Long-Distance Investing?

I’ve been reading David Greene’s Long Distance Real Estate Investing, and I wanted to ask you guys what the best cities and states were to start out in.

I’m in the military so I travel often. Originally I was planning on Knoxville but it might be too expensive for me.

My goals are to buy some 1-2br SFHs and rent them out. If it goes well I want to get into MFHs.
