Real Estate Agent License

Radhika Shah

Hi everyone,

I am just getting started with reading Biggerpockets books/ podcasts and just attended David's seminar yesterday.  Truly charged up!!

I am from Bay area and have some questions that need help with;

1. How can I get the Real estate license in California? What are the basic steps? I followed some online materials and found out that have to take classes. Seems there are a lot of options online and in class. Are there any preferred classes to go with? Does it matter if I do online or in-class?

2. Do I need to sign up with Broker before obtaining the license?  Or do I have to apply to brokers like jobs once have a license?

 3. Do I have to renew license every year? If I do not make any sale does it terminate?

Any suggestions, tips, web link materials to get me started would be really great. Thank you in advance!!

@Radhika Shah - Sorry I missed you at our meetup we held last night in Oakland!  Hopefully you got some great value out of it.

Here are some tips I recommend when starting.  This is just my opinion though...

First Tuesday is an easy online class and straightforward enough to help you pass the test.

You don't need to sign up with a broker.  It never hurts to visit a lot of brokers and see which ones you are the best fit.  My opinion, the one I'm with now, the one with two letters and a last name ;) I'm VERY happy with.

You don't need to renew every year.  There are continuing education classes that are required however.  As long as you are up to date on your dues, you could never make a sale and your license will not terminate.
