Legalzoom vs Local Attorney to form LLC

Lee Mitchell
Posted

Hello,

My wife and I are looking to begin investing in rental property and want to use an LLC to limit our legal liability incase things go sideways on us. Is using a local attorney worth the extra cost or would setting one up online through a company like Legalzoom suffice? If using a local attorney is better, what is the advantage? Thanks in advance for the help!

The actual process of filling in blank lines in an online form can be done on your own through your state's Secretary of State website. All of the pertinent info should be there in terms of cost and what to do. As far as understanding your liability and the structure of your LLC, it may be best to consult an attorney, especially when creating an operating agreement.
