Ideas for Work Experience/Shadowing

Hi BP!

I am a student in university, fairly new to REI and busy learning about my local market where I plan to invest.

I am in the process of saving for loan down payment since I aim to first acquire a rental or more ideally do a house-hack when I am able to qualify for a loan (I have not researched private lending yet - any tips would be welcomed for financing options).

I have a semester break coming up in which I hope to go out and get a feel for the Cape Town market - open to anything. I have thought of contacting real estate agents, contractors, lenders or property management companies.

What would you do if you were in my situation? I hope to use my spare time to do unpaid work or otherwise to shadow an industry professional.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance...

David

Hi @David H. and welcome to BP! I think your line of thinking is pretty solid. Going out and speaking with professionals is a great way to get a feel for how all of this actually works. Another thing you could do is see if there are any real estate investor meetups in your area. Also, you may see if your university offers any classes in real estate. In addition to real estate classes, classes in business, entrepreneurship, accounting, economics, etc would serve you well.

Best of luck and let us know how it all goes!
