Closing on my first properties

I am fairly new to Bigger Pockets forums but have been listening to pod casts for some time now.  Thanks to the confidence builders I continue to hear, we are closing on two single family properties at the end of July with my brother.

Couple of notes I wanted to say before questions.

1. I'm planning to use the contract that I've gained from a friend who has 40+ properties

2. 1 house is rented and one vacant

3. Vacant house I'm simply touching up and painting

Question: 

1. Any specific site you would recommend for background checks?

2. How long should they have held current job to be a good candidate?

3.  Any other tips are welcome.
