Welcome me to the world of investing
Hi everyone,
My name is James, i am 23 years old, born and raised in the rough parts of The Bronx in NYC. My parents are from the Caribbean and i am their youngest of 3. This past December, i acquired my B.B.A. in Real Estate Investment. Almost 4 years ago, i acquired my Associates in Accounting. My parents have been poor my entire life and i knew since i was very young that i would pursue a career being a real estate investor. I am the only one in my entire family to graduate college and i do not have anyone related to me with lots of money or any knowledge of real estate at all. This is no excuse, i have gone out of my way to get to where i am and never limited myself to how much i could learn and do.
It is incredible to realize what I've learned over the last 5 months (reading books, forums, podcasts) has been much more valuable and applicable then the 2.5 years it took me to get that bachelors degree.
I currently operate my own phone repair business for 3 years and work a part time job while learning more and more about investing everyday. I have able to save up enough money and build my to get started. Although, being self employed i decided to file losses to avoid paying taxes and i cannot yet qualify for a conventional loan but have explored other methods of financing.
I am closing next week on my first fix and flip property out in Allentown, PA with a hard money lender. New York is too expensive and competitive to get started in so i learned how i can network to be able to find opportunities elsewhere. My short term goal is to net 60k off of my first 5 flips and then begin building my rental property portfolio. I want to network with all the great people out here looking to help out the newbies, i am extremely motivated and i know how much work must be put in to be successful.
I have been a member on BP for a while and have read so many forums and success stories and heard over 100 podcasts, but never posted. So here's me introducing myself.
Looking forward to connecting and working with others. :)
