Starting a trade business?--> plumbing vs hvac vs construction

My plan is to start my own business, and then use that trade (either electrician,plumbing, HVAC, construction) to morph into my real estate investing.

So heres my plan: I'm good at sales...  I was going to partner with someone who has their plumbing license and start a business. I would bring in the business, and he would do the dirty work.  I would bring the money.   My partner would be running the show, but i'd be bringing the money .  
Can i do that? or would i need a license as well
