How did you find your (long distant) investing partnership?

Being on the North side of the border (assuming most of you are from USA), I know that it's a good option to look for someone to partner invest with especially if I'm looking far from my local area.  But I'm unsure of how ot connect with someone in an area/city I want to invest with especially if they are far thousands of kilometers/miles away. 

Can any of you share your partnership stories especially partnering with someone who is nowhere near you and investing in their local area? Perhaps how you met, how you got along, and any concerns partnering with someone else?
