Is it possible to house hack by proxy through a partnership?

Curious if this is a thing. I have a friend I trust that I wouldn't mind partnering with on a deal. For the sake of the argument assume his financials work and that he does not currently have an FHA loan. Is it possible (and more importantly legal for the both of us) for him to buy a multi-unit using an FHA loan and house hack but to also have my name on the everything but the loan. He would be living in one of the units but I would not.
