Start with commercial property?

Hello, Has anyone started their REI with commercial property purchase? I spent some time talking with my grandfather, who built his wealth with SFH working up to his building his own subdivision of homes then commercial property. His advice to me was to start with commercial. I'll have some follow up talks with him, but was curious what this group thought. Where I live the growth is fast, and I've often thought about purchasing a franchise to take advantage but always knew I'd rather be the owner of the property that housed said franchises. My presumption is that this is mostly unattainable for most people unless they are accredited and can join a group to own. Thanks Kevin

@Kevin Jorgensen Great to hear you are thinking of going commercial.  I would def lean on  your grandfather.  So i kinda struggle with the same thing bc my background is in commercial real estate information and I see every single day deals being done where people are making so much.  The rewards can be exponential but the risk can be as well.  I just talked with a woman today who purchased an office building almost one yr ago at an auction and sold it in Dec; made $1 million profit for holding 1 yr!  But to get to my point I actually was reading an article and by a guy name Brian Murray he wrote a book called "Crushing It in Apartments and Commercial Real Estate: How a Small Investor Can Make It Big" it is on amazon and got good reviews.  I am going to pick it up and read it myself.  I wish you good luck and hope some of the information helped.  Feel free to hit me up with any comments or questions.  Maybe one day I will be talking to you about your $1 million flip
