renting your first property

Hello everyone!

Me and my husband just put an offer on a beautiful duplex. We are planning to live in 1 unit and rent the other one.
This is a multifamily house but it is listed as a single family. Is it something we have to worry about? Should we convert it into a multifamily on paper? And how much that would cost.
And if we live there, do we still need register the other unit as a rental?

What`s the legal process to start renting?
