BP members,

I am a young entrepreneur looking to get my foot in the door of the real estate investing world. I am looking to learn more and earn more about the industry while taking action. Books, forums, and podcasts are very helpful, but I am suffering mores and more of paralysis by analysis. What are your thoughts on becoming a property manager to starts out and learn more while earning some money?

While I didn't do it...I do use a property manager for my rentals. What I can tell you is that you need to really educate yourself on the landlord tenant laws. Partner with a good handyman, and find a good attorney.

What you lack in experience you'll need to make up for in knowledge. If I were you I'd strongly consider reading through Brandon Hall's post that's going on right now about how he got to 1000 posts and built his CPA business. While you're not building a CPA business...you're in a very similar situation and I think his approach is spot on for how to tackle the position you're in. A lot can be learned from that thread on how to break into this game.
