19 year old newbie NYC

Hello all, 

My name is Christian Costa. I am a 19 years old, 2nd year finance major at Baruch College. I have been interested in real estate investing for a couple years now. If there are any seasoned investors in the city, I Would love to take you out to lunch and just talk about real estate with you. Looking for someone with some prior experience in the nyc market, just wanted to hear how you have became successful in this market, you're do's and don'ts.

Locate and attend 3 different local REIA club meetings great place to meet people gather resources and info. Here you will meet wholesalers who provide deals and rehabbers (cash buyers). Find them through Google and meetup.com There are good meetings in NYC and Long Island

Two Great reads, I bought both J. Scott The Book on Flipping Houses, The Book on Estimating ReHab Costs http://www.biggerpockets.com/flippingbook

You might consider Niche or Specialized Housing like student housing. Rents can be 2-4 times more. Remember you don't have to own a property to control it. You really want to check this out since you are a student.
