Philadelphia: trying to get my foot in the door

Hi guys! I am a newbie and I am just starting to get serious about making real estate my career. I have been reading and researching and trying to find as much information as I can, but I am a little scared to get started on my own. I have found a lot of seminars and webinars that talk about getting the right training, but they all involve paying money. I know that no service is ever free, but is it at all possible for me to train myself or find a mentor who is willing to show me the ropes without it costing me so much money? i would greatly appreciate any feedback that you guys may have.

Also, i am located in the Philadelphia area and would be more than willing to to interact with investors or agents close by.

thanks!

Dorian

You say you want to make real estate your career....ok but which part? What are you trying to do? Wholesale? Invest in buy and holds? Fix and Flips? Do you have a short and long term plan? A business plan?

I highly suggest you network locally and sign up to all of the FREE local REI meetings....there is pretty much 1 a week in the Philly area and they don't cost anything. I also suggest you link up with someone already in the market who can educate you on whats going on.

Also, if your looking for a mentor you have to ask yourself what kind of value are you going to bring for them? There are a lot of people asking for free help....it's going to be very difficult to find someone who is willing to do that. I suggest finding someone to "birdog" for and see if they would be willing assist.

Last thing.....in this business your going to have to spend money to make money....there is no other easy way! Anyone who says otherwise I would love to see what they are doing to make it work.

Just my 2 cents....
