Finding the right 1800 or local number?

Hi there, my name is Chris, and I am from Vancouver, BC. I want to start marketing in Washington. I was told to use Google Voice to assist me in dealing with phone calls from potential clients, but for what ever reason its not working because I cant seem to pick a 1800 or local US number. Does anyone out there have another similar solution that I could use?
