Do I need to have LLC to buy/flip/rent properties?

Hi,

I am a newbie and the question is when do you need to register your llc.. Before your first flip or when you start renting them out?  Will I need to apply for many credit cards with my llc? How much do I need to save to start llc? Do you all have llc? Whats the best way to set everything up?
