All of them lol.  What I mean they all provide valuable experience in all sectors.

Agent

Sub-Contractor - many variants of that

Home inspector

Working for a real estate atty as a paralegal or title company

Appraiser -  That a really good one

Mortgage broker - finance

Leasing agent - Residential or commercial

There is no way around it you have to gain experience in all of those.  Real estate is a lot more complicated than people make it out to be sometimes.  Do's and Don'ts knowledge that saves you a lot of money.  You can also add local codes, permits etc to that.  You have to know contracts and that's Agent mostly.  I'm not trying to discourage you at all.  I am just saying there is a lot to it to know when you can and can't.  What works better or doesn't work.  Being an appraiser is good income.  However they have tighter licencing requirements now.

Thank you for the reply! Would construction be a good job to learn about buy and hold properties or would it be more for sales?

If your going to go the construction route my recommendation would be to learn EVERYTHING you can about construction.  That includes framing, cement work, electrical, plumbing, grading everything you can.  Being a builder is a good living.
