If you could start investing in real estate anywhere in the US, where would it be?
Hey BP-ers!
I currently work as a consultant, and have the flexibility of living mostly anywhere in the lower 48. Aside from my day job, I'm interested in getting started in real estate investing - my current thought is to find a good market and 'househack' a duplex/triplex/quad as my first investment (and slowly build upon my portfolio of Buy&Hold properties while I work).
I'm interested in hearing your thoughts on where you would start your real estate careers - what markets and why?
Just a note - I love the outdoors, I prefer to live near the ocean (i'm from NJ after all!) and it's 100% essential that there's an airport nearby (for work).
Looking forward to your thoughts!

Manhattan Beach, LAX is 10 minutes away and need I say more about CA beach's
If you like more out doors stuff like hunting and fishing Oregon coast has some well priced close proximity to water properties.. and 1 hour to pdx Northern Cal Coast is Awesome up by the redwood areas but kind of remote. Puget sound is awesome you can buy on one of the Islands in the Sound and take a ferry over to SeaTac.. etc etc.
Charleston SC 30 minute flight to Atlanta and you can get any where you want.. much up side in Charleston surrounded by water big long beaches.. college town etc etc.
I suspect many places in Florida would work.. Like fort Meyers well priced properties there if you can handle the heat.
Mississippi gulf coast has lots of opportunites in RE... along with New Oreleans Houston as well.. then there is the north east don't know those areas but there should be some
