Have I found a good mentor?

I've on the hunt for a good local mentor. I will be attending my first REI mtg Thursday.

In the meantime, I posted an CL ad in the housing section, "Real estate entrepeneur, seeking mentor."  I was clear in the ad that I wasn't looking for hand outs or free money.  I was clear that I can bring integrity, enthusiasm and a desire to learn.

Gentleman calls this morning on my way into work.  Older gentleman, CPA by trade, investor for 35 yrs.  We talked for 30 minutes.  After giving him my background and what I'm looking for, he talked for 30 minutes.  Fast talker, Texas accent.  LOL

He told me what he does, the people that he's helped, about his team and his system.  He mentioned everyone in his office by name.  Seemed genuine to me.

At one point, I asked if he was looking for a bird dog.  He seemed a bit suprised by my direct approach.  And I'm not opposed to bird dogging in an effort to learn.  I was just curious.  In short he told me I can be as involved as I wanted to be.

In closing, he wants me to come to his office to meet his staff and see the operation.  He mentioned this 3 times.  I also asked if he has a system that he sells.  He said no.  I wanted to make sure he wasn't selling me a guru system because I'm not interested.

His office is an hour from me.  What do you all think?
