Owner Occupied Multi-Family or Single Family Home?

Hi all! I am new to BP and my husband and I are just starting out. I am wondering what everyone's opinions are on our living arrangments. We currently rent and are looking to buy come June. Should we start out by buying an owner occupied multifamily to begin investing in RE or should we first focus on finding us a single family and then worry about investing once we're more situated. I read yesterday on the rent vs. own thread that many feel owning your own home is a great way to learn the basics so it made me question if it's smartest for us to start out in a multifamily or not. Thanks in advance for any and all input!
