Getting Started: REIA groups

I recently found 2 REIA groups near me that meet up on a weekly/monthly basis (Tampa, Sarasota). Both groups websites talk about membership fees, is this required to attend meetings? Is this pretty standard?

Thanks!

@Matt Bohanon All legit REIA's charge something to be apart of the club. That's how they keep their doors open. I am a Board Member of The Chicago Area REIA and we charge $99 for an individual membership and $20 to add a partner/spouse on to your membership. We are also a Not for Profit (NFP) organization. This means we turn a profit at the end of the year, but recycle those funds back into the organization to offer better services, speakers, venues, workshops, etc for our member base. I recommend you find a REIA that is also a registered NFP and helps investors through education and not just selling you 101 ways to become a millionaire over the course of a weekend. Good luck
