Non US resident investing in property

Hi, I am a non US resident living and working outside of the US. I fancy the idea of purchasing a property in the US as an investment but not quite sure where to start? Due to the favourable exchange rates, pound vs US Dollar (sorry guys), I feel that this is a great opportunity to invest in some property in the States. Any suggestions would be welcome especially from those who have done it already (invested from outside of the US). Thanks.
