Want some market insight and networking opportunities

I moved to Stevens Point, WI last month and want to start some real estate investment in 3-6 months. My initial thought is to purchase a multi-family home in the UWSP neighborhood. I want to ask if there is any networking opportunity in this area and if you think investing multi-family home now is a good idea. I would look into local and state apartment associations. They have resources and networking opportunities with many in your situation.
