How soon is your turn around from when you take possession of new real estate

Im currently in the car business but real estate always intrigued me, I would like to hear from seasoned real estate investors how long does it take to turn/flip your investment and start to make a profit.

In the past i used to like watching those tv series of flipping homes , them guys made it seem easy but i know its further from the truth.
