Help with House Hacking in the KC area

Kenlyn McGuire
Posted

Within the next year, I will be moving to the south side of Kansas City. When I arrive I want to do what's best housing-wise for my early 20s. I know house hacking is a great way to jump into the real estate world. I do not want to get into another lease with an apartment. My question is, what are some strategies you all can provide that can aid me in finding my first small multi-family property? Anything helps and I am open to any advice or critiques. Thanks in advance!

Urban Core areas in Kansas City in both Kansas version and the Missouri version are like urban cores all over the country with good areas and bad, improving areas around the night life and touristy things.  But the other cities around the urban core a better . . . One good thing to look at are the amenities you want . . .the more and better amenities the nicer the neighborhood.

Public Schools. . . Are a factor in the single family communities, maybe not so much for apartments.

Grocery stores . . .are there several near by, or are the only options dollar general and Aldi . . Or nothing. . . The nothing is a worse area for crime and shop lifting so stores opt to not be there or left.

Other shops, dr offices, hair salons, barbers . . They can be a sign as well.  So back to urban core . . .not many if any grocery stores.  KCMO north of the river or KCK further west to the nascar track,  you find all amenities.

Johnson County Kansas you find the most amenities, Lees Summit, Blue Springs, as well

to a lesser degree Gladstone, Independence, Grandview,

then north KC, raytown, parts of independence,
