When do potential renters typically fill out an application?

Hi! I'm new to BP and I'm a brand new soon to be landlord. I have my first rental property listed, and have a question about when potential renters typically complete an application.

Do they normally do this before or after showings?

I appreciate any thoughts on this!

 Gather a ton of potential renters, get them in to see the place then send out applications to all of them that are interested after they see the place. The best 2-3 check deeper, and do all the due diligence on one that is the best out of all those 2-3. 

No need to really do an app before showing unless it is something that there is a lot of demand for and you need to weed out a lot of people from the get go.
