Real Estate %of Total Portfolio

Howdy yall, I am curious to know what percentage of an individual's total portfolio should be allocated to real estate? I understand that real estate is viewed as one of the safest, most reliable asset classes but in the age of rapid technological evolution I feel that there are other opportunities that could out-perform while maintaining liquidity.

A little background about myself I am a 23 year old graduate student looking to aquire my first property later this year.

Thanks!

IMO it's best for investors to understand each and decide for themselves the allocation that best fits their goals and interests. One thing I do know is that none of my real estate has ever lost 25% of its value in one day (looking at you, Meta)

Maybe not one day but I had loans on properties in 07 to 08 were the property feel by more than 50% in a year  think GA FLA NV AZ during the GFC..  Not predicting another one mind you but it did happen and can happen if history repeats.
