I am in the process of forming my real estate LLC and was curious on how others have chosen their name in the past. I do not want to include my name in the LLC, I would use initials. Any ideas?

Well, I don't agonize about LLC names, because most of mine aren't public. When I form an LLC to own a rental property, I call it according to the property address, but not the obvious name, because I don't want to have the search for a name that the previous owner hadn't taken.

For example, 45 Maple St, Anytown would be 45MA, LLC. I can be pretty sure that the name is not taken. 45 Maple St LLC might have already been used. Bear in mind that these are not companies that I would have to advertise.

The last LLC I opened was not for a property but was to be owned inside an IRA for the purpose of lending money. I was on the phone with my attorney, and had to come up with a name quickly. My dog was pestering me to go out while I was trying to finish the conversation, so I used his name, "Sampson" and named the company Sampson Capital. The attorney commented that sounded like a strong name. Too funny. Sampson is a 13 lb poodle.

My point is, use something that works for you and means something to you. I think initials tend to get lost in the crowd. And things like United Properties, LLC or other generic words are very forgettable.

Josh did a good job choosing "Bigger Pockets". It makes you stop and think what it means.
