Pros/Cons of starting your own independent brokerage?

Interested to hear people's thoughts on this. I'm trying to decide whether or not I should start up my own operation. I would ideally like to move away from a large named brokerage and start an independent brokerage. Anyone have experience and know what all goes into this? To clarify, I would like to open a flat rate brokerage where agents would pay a flat fee (ex. $500) per closing as opposed to a % split. Agents would have to supply their own lock boxes, signs, cards, office space, etc. (basically all day to day essentials). I would simply hold their license and provide e/o insurance. This is a rough draft but I'm interested in hearing people's thoughts on whether or not it's worth it. I figured it is an enticing option for investor agents not looking to split larger commissions. Thanks all! Jeff T.
