How to protect yourself when partnering on a deal

I'm considering going in on a deal with someone I met recentlywhat would be considered due diligence and what steps should I take to protect myselfhello I have no reason to suspect him of anything and I don't get a bad feelingI just want to make sure that I do things right.  I am kind of new to the business
