Is Franchising/Business Ownership "Really" Not Considered REI?

"Is business ownership without owning the land still considered real estate investing?

What if franchising is part of the strategy, with a long-term goal of acquiring properties as well?

Curious to hear thoughts from experienced investors & entrepreneurs."

I don't see how you could be an investor in real estate unless you own the real estate.

Unless maybe you have an option on the purchase of the real estate or something.

As a business owner you might want to consider yourself to be an entrepreneur, or a Franchisee.

Just my 2 cents.
