Options with a 1031 Exchange

So I have a property in which I want to 1031 exchange. The property is in New York and I live in Seattle. When doing a 1031 exchange I am aware that you have six months to flip the money into one of the properties that was pre-chosen. But are you allowed to disperse the money into multiple properties rather than 1031 exchange it into one property?
