If I'm going to invest in a multi-family, as a investor only is it worth getting an LLC for myself?

How do you find out if its legal to do practice Investing with out a RE license in Houston TX. Is their any laws that I should know about, I've seen a few discouraging post on other web sites stating that its illegal....
