I have someone offering to lend me money as a direct lender. Only thing is, I can’t figure out if it’s legit or not.

How does one know which ones are legitimate and which ones are scam? I saw comments about one hard money lender in particular and they were very bad reviews.

Someone found me on Bigger Pockets saying they are a private lender. How do I protect myself so that I don’t get scammed? What should and shouldn’t I do?
