The problem isn't lack of opportunities, especially in the USA - it's lack of discipline, willpower, and the ability to postpone gratification that is the problem.

They simply don't make enough money, whether that's from child care challenges, lack of education, living arrangements, Section 8 and other safety-net golden handcuffs, lack of willpower, etc.

The reason I think you are okay putting extra money in your Roth is because I'm a big proponent of hiding money from yourself; perhaps you can set up a savings account separate from your current one that you chose to have a direct deposit to from your current paychecks (only do this if you have the will power not to dip into it).
