While trades are done relatively quickly today, and therefor the average transaction fee hovers around $2 per exchange, a few months back when bitcoin was all the rage there were too many trades for the system to handle which pushed the average transaction cost close to $40 per trade. 

I think you'd really have to work hard by mining bitcoin, leave the windows open in winter with heat on full blast, or something similarly unusual to exceed the cap. 

But day trading is a job at best and a nightmare at worst.
