In general I would come up with a solution and tell my accountant what I am doing. 

Based upon the screenshots of the software it looks like Investor's Edge software is just a white label of Propstream. 

Be aware if their payment is clearly labeled "for rent only" or similar, and in that case, only apply it to rent. 

But make sure you make a file labeled "why I intended to hold this and what changed".

I'm not sure I would label this result "saving money" for your client, and I'm not sure I would brag about it.
