It's a cluster, with months of uncertainty, and in my case 10s of thousands of dollars, because we had to upgrade the septic to accommodate the fourth unit, as if it wasn't working already.

Being the military, it had that definiteĀ institutionalĀ overtone to it, but the basic premise was the same.I recently toured a new senior's complex in which on end - for those who were still relatively self sufficient - had individual units (bedroom, sitting room /Ā kitchenette ... effectively a bachelor apartment but without a full kitchen) clustered together in groups of 4 with their own common room / kitchen and courtyard.On the other side of the complex were units for those who required more assisted living. Ā

In a busier place, you might just be told to find a GC to "un-cluster' what you did.For me, when this happened, IĀ had to go and hire a certified plumber, and electrician, and framer to come in and certify that all the work my handyman did was correct - and to fix the issues that weren't correct.
