Because the best way to get a finish that reliably smooth to go over the existing finish in any sort of reasonable time with water-based paint would probably be airbrushing.

It is as easy as using a paint sprayer/airbrush and you can mix colors for all kinds of nice effects.

The hallway I will paint by hand because it has so many doorways there wont be any point to using a sprayer.I've never used this type of sprayer but I have a lot of experience with airbrushes and spray paint.
