Another thought occurred to me though: What if we bought a vacation rental type home and rented it out on the weekends and only lived there during the week for the year (actually only 9 months) that she'll be employed out there, then turn it into a full time vacation rental when we're done (I don't think there's as strong of a long term rental market in the area).

If you bought it for retail price and you are moving out of state, I would sell it, take the tax free profit, and buy in my new hometown once you know the market there.

If i bought it outright, i think he would take like $3-5000 down and maybe the balance in 2 years.....Any guidance is greatly appreciated on what you would do with this deal, being 'creative' of course.I wouldn't feel right signing an option with him and not being able to cash him out after two years.
