@Mark Gallagher just to clarify he spoke with someone (didn't get a name or department info) over the phone from the city who read the same materials that we found online: http://phillyzoning.com/rsa-5/The individual from the city didn't provide a definitive answer but stated that based on the fact that its already broken up and has been for 5 years they could assumed that its should be fine.Hopefully that clears it up

You should check with your local building inspector or permitting department to determine if you are allowed to leave the dead wire in the walls or if it has to come out.

We've seen several of these out in my/your area and they've let the local/volunteer fire departments use them to train and they actually burn it down for you...

@Chris Coccaro,You'll also want to verify that the added unit is legal from a zoning perspective and that the local building department inspector is ok with it.

The cleanest and simplest way is to look up Title companies in your area and ask if they have an Escrow department.

You have to do some preliminary investigation.The first thing is visit the local building or planning department to see what the area is zoned for.
