Peace of mind is valuable, and I don't need to buy influence with others to feel good about myself.

That was their culture but there were also peaceful people in america before the americans came and on the continent of africa there were tribes doing similar things.Also to say that africans were living in mud huts, i think that's a gross representation off the facts, it comes off as a slight against african culture. there was more to africa than mud huts but i'm sure you weren't referring to the entire african civilization so i'll let that be.The thing that is a fact though is when the spanish, europeans, and portuguese came over their diseases devastated the local population who they came in contact with.

Peace of mind is priceless. 

The fact that he is black and/or a professor doesn't give him the right to violate the law and disturb the peace, act disorderly, etc.

I have been told that this can provide peace of mind for the tenant and has benefit for the landlord too.
