Hey everyone, hoping to get some insight from this group regarding the RE Professional Tax benefit.I see lots of articles claiming that I should be able to deduct rental losses against my husband’s W-2 income if I claim the RE Professional Tax status.

Familial status is protected.I would ask how many people and you probably can set rent rare per person but I haven't had a roommate or housemate situation since 1996. 

There are plusses and minuses to it as you'll have to put 20%-25% down plus closing costs and reserves, but your personal income or employment status won't really be an issue.

@Kamil Kaczmarczyk While having real estate professional status (REPS) definitely makes it easier to utilize the benefits from a cost segregation study, you can still benefit from the study without it.
