Let's focus on Vancouver, which I know better and I suspect Singapore is a similar story for what I know about it.I don't know any Canadian investor in wealth building mode who'd want to invest in Vancouver, including those who live there.

Sounds like you got a winner there :) We actually just bought a new one last year- amazing location with main house on a great corner, and separately addressed guest house in the back that we rent out.

Its being sold as income/cash generation I think mainly because --- it sells.. 

It took us about 2.5 months to renovate the entire property including all the old systems (HVAC, Plumbing, electrical and roof along with everything else). 

Plenty of pro's including easy qualification, low documents required for underwriting/processing, and just overall convenience + turnaround time, among other nuances that make it a great loan product.
