As a result, I'll be selling my house and using the gains to put a down payment on a secondary house next to my current rental property.

Currently in the process of selling our property in missouri and looking to purchase a 4 plex in Florida. 

My dream has always been to live in puerto rico and have a place here in NY.

Do you recommend me buy a house to fix or buy another house new for me and use my current house for rent and move to the new one?

I currently have a SFH which is under VA home loan which I got for $281,500 in California.

However, like John Kent mentioned, if the first VA loan is assumable, and is seen as "paid-off" in the current owners name, then he would be eligible for another loan with 0 down.

I used to live in Ohio but now I am in the Tampa, Clearwater and St Pete area of Florida. 

@Sylvester Hardison, I am going to echo other's thoughts, but it also depends on what your current education level is and where you feel your weaknesses are.Within the multifamily space, for instance, there are a lot of groups out there.
