I'm an investor from Atlanta visiting family in the Woodlands this week. 

My experience is in the north Houston area and @Mitchell Benson is right, The Woodlands, Tomball, Spring and Cypress are all excellent rental areas. 

Anadarko is opening a regional HQ in Midland, not moving their HQ from the Woodlands there.

I closed escrow on my first home purchase June 2016, in Woodland Hills,Ca.

I would say Sugarland, The Woodlands and Katy would be good suburban A markets.
