A great way to start is by attending RE events and joining a local investors association.

If the separating wall is a load bearing fire wall, it would have 2 sets of framing material on either side, essentially you have 2 completly independent houses joined by the roof, you can go in the attic and see if you see sheetrock going to the ridge of the roof. 

Also you could joins some STR groups on Facebook.

While Canadian-specific groups aren't as prominent on Bigger Pockets, there's a thriving community of investors here who frequently collaborate across borders, especially when it comes to cross-border investing strategies and tax considerations.If you’re interested in connecting with more Canadian investors, I’d recommend starting by joining the BP groups focused on international investing.

If you are looking for ways to find people to network with, I would suggest joining a real estate investment club such as Lifestyle's Unlimited, they have over 55,000 members. 

I often wonder why folks fall for the hey pay me 10k up front to join my club I will fund your deals when in fact they just refer to a HML to fund them and we will split profit 50 /50.. my profit splits are no where near that  80/20  70/30  bigger side going to the capital partner I want them to grow and continue I dont want them wishing they never should have spent 10k or more on some program..
