Adding my thoughts here as well - I just moved back to Cape Coral (grew up here) after being in Denver for eleven years, purely really for the real estate market and relative affordability compared with most of the rest of the country.

Unless you are doing this in pure cash, a few hundred to thousand is peanuts compared to the increased interest payments.

That said, I've run the numbers and it does make more sense from a purely dollar value standpoint (ROI, total net profits, CoCR, etc.) to leverage properties to buy more properties.

You tend to attract a higher quality of resident (people looking for a permanent home versus transient tenants shopping purely on price).
