I say that with two caveats. 1) I am assuming that you are responsible with your money and do not need a forced savings mechanism like an amortized loan; and 2) since this is a loan from a family member ensure either loan is set up properly.Bottom line, though, an interest only loan with the same rate and terms as an amortized loan gives you the OPTION to pay it the same as the amortized loan but does not REQUIRE you too.

Its good to have an idea of the age of mechanicals etc and can use that as a negation point.
